World Cup 2022: Portugal Silence Ghana

Ghana’s dream of winning their opening group stage match in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been shattered.

Portugal defeated Black Stars 3 – 2 on Thursday evening, November 24, 2022.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoreline with a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

Andre Ayew leveled the score for Ghana in the 73rd minute following a defensive blunder from the Portuguese side.

But Joan Felix doubled the lead for Portugal in 78th minute, with substitute Rafael Leao making it 3 – 1 in favor of the Portugese.

Ghana had another consolation goal from substitute Bukari.

The match, which was highly competitive in the second half, ended with the Portuguese picking up their first three points of the tournament.

Ghana are in Group H with Uruguay and South Korea, aside Portugal. Portugal and Ghana previously met in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with Portugal winning that match on a 2 – 1 score.
