Wizkid Makes More Billboard Chart History with ‘Made In Lagos’

Wizkid’s fourth album, Made In Lagos, has proven to be one of the most successful African albums ever. In a new milestone, the album has re-entered the Billboard World Album chart at No. 24. This marks the sixth year in a row that the album has appeared on the chart, setting a record for African music.

Since its release in October 2020, Made In Lagos has shown incredible global appeal. It debuted on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the Billboard World Album chart for 100 weeks, making history in the process. Its popularity in the U.S. is a clear sign of its wide reach and success.

One of the album’s biggest highlights is the hit song “Essence” featuring Tems. The track became the first Nigerian song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 and got even bigger with a remix featuring Justin Bieber. The remix reached No. 9 on the Hot 100, making it the highest-charting Afrobeats song ever.

Made In Lagos also received major awards recognition, including a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album. “Essence” was nominated for Best Global Music Performance. In 2022, the album was named No. 2 on the Billboard Year-End World Album chart, just behind BTS’s Proof.

Even five years after its release, Made In Lagos is seen as one of Nigeria’s most important albums. It has helped make Afrobeats more popular around the world and confirmed Wizkid as one of its biggest stars. The album’s continued success shows how far African music can go globally.
