Former American President, Donald Trump, has been sued by author E Jean Carroll, for allegedly raping her. Ms. Carroll has accused Trump of raping her back in the 1990s and has filed a suit in the US state of New York against the Republican former President.
The 78 years-old Carroll is reportedly among the first to sue under the Adult Survivors Act, which came into effect on Thursday. Reports sat the law allows a one-year period for victims to file sexual assault lawsuits in New York over claims that would have otherwise exceeded statute limitations.
The author has alleged that the rape took place in a New York luxury department store dressing room 27 years ago. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump has reportedly denied the allegations leveled against him. A lawyer for former President Trump, Alina Habba, is said to have told US media that, while she respects and admires individuals that come forward “this case is unfortunately an abuse of the purpose of this Act” and “runs the risk of delegitimising the credibility of actual victims”.
