The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Power Oil Liberia/Express Oil, Leon Daniel Nyentue on Monday, January 30, 2023 dedicated a US$6m modern storage facility in Harper City, Maryland County.
County Superintendent George A. Prowd, the managers of Ecobank Liberia, and International Bank, and a Representative of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Apostle Peter O. Nseobon, graced the occasion.
Also, Mr. Civicus Barsi-Giah, Buchanan Port Managing Director; Mr. Williams Wallace, Harper Port Manager, security and government officials, among others, were also in attendance.
However, it is in fulfillment of President George M. Weah’s Pro-poor Agenda following a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a petroleum storage terminal at the Port of Harper.
During that groundbreaking in 2021, President Weah promised that the facility would have the capacity to store more petroleum in the county as part of his government’s Pro-poor Agenda.
Addressing the citizens during the dedication ceremony, CEO Nyentue explained that the construction of the multipurpose office complex and petroleum storage facility was aimed at promoting the economy of the county, especially the Port of Harper and the Southeast at large.
The investment will help in addressing age-old problems associated with the supply of petroleum products to major southeastern counties, including Maryland, River Gee, Grand Kru, and Grand Gedeh, respectively.
He further disclosed that the new facility contains three major tanks that will store about 940,000 gallons of fuel and gasoline respectively and it will help reduce the price of petroleum cost in the Southeast.
He commended the Weah administration especially, authorities at the Harper Port, for reposing trust in his company to construct such a facility in the southeast.
However, the CEO urged the government to put serious attention on the revitalization of the port to ease the stress citizens face in importing petroleum and other essential commodities.
In response, the county superintendent George A. Prowd commended the Power Oil Liberia/Express Oil, CEO Leon Daniel Nyentue for constructing such a project in Maryland, especially the Southeast.
He stressed that similar construction was done in the county 30 years ago, and the issues of petroleum were never the problem. But since its damage, he said it has been a serious challenge.
With the $ 6 million modern storage facility, Mr. Prowd said the Southeastern counties will have no cause to worry because the facility will surely benefit them.
Superintendent Prowd urged citizens to utilize the opportunity, assuring that as local government officials in the county, they will provide all necessary protection for such a project.
“Let me say, our government headed by President George Weah is doing well because, over the time, there have been these developments that [are] coming to the southeast,” said Prowd.
“In recent times, there was this [a] groundbreaking done in River Gee for the construction of [a] regional CBL cash hub and with these, the government [is] doing some great jobs for its people in the southeast,” Prowd argued.
He acknowledged the efforts of Harper Port Managing Director Williams Wallace, and his staff, for living up to the trust accorded them by this government.
