Angelique Kidjo
We kicked off our songs collection series on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, with American singer, Chris Brown’s January 4, 2019, release titled: ‘Undecided.’
We continue today, May 21, but this time round, taking you down the memory lane with a more than a two-decades-old song which has its roots deeply planted in Africa.
And it’s no other than Angélique Kidjo of Benin whose ‘Wombo Lombo’ song we are presenting to you.
‘Wombo Lombo’ may have been around for long but it remains arguably one of the best songs ever made by an African singer.
The track is one of the hit songs from her Fifa album released in 1996, and has enjoyed massive airplay and streams.
Angelique Kidjo, born Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo is a Grammy award-winner and a Beninese singer-songwriter and actress.
She is fondly called “Africa’s premier diva,” with her songs spanning several genres including the Afropop, Caribbean zouk, Congolese rumba, jazz, gospel, and Latin styles; as well as her childhood idols Bella Bellow, James Brown, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Celia Cruz, Jimi Hendrix, Miriam Makeba and Carlos Santana.
