Nigerian singer and songwriter Skales, known for hit songs like “Temper, “Fire Waist”, and others has publicly called out the Nigerian Police Force over an alleged altercation on December 4, 2024.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the 33 year-old singer song writer detailed the incident, which occurred near Magodo, Lagos, as he headed to an interview at City FM.
In his post, Skales expressed his frustration, writing: “The Nigerian police will not stop being a joke. Yesterday, under the bridge close to Magodo, as if you’re going to Fela Shrine/Agidingbi, the police stopped us on our way to City FM and started acting crazy, pointing guns at us like we were criminals, after their usual nonsense.”
Skales claimed the officers demanded “Christmas money” from him, and when he refused, they threatened to delay him and search his vehicle. He recounted: “They asked for Christmas money, and I said, ‘I swear I’m not giving you anything; we’re late for an interview.’ They started saying all sorts of rubbish, threatening to delay us and search us. I told them my hatred for this so-called Nigerian police force wouldn’t let me ever want to be at their mercy, so we let them search the car.”
During the search, the officers reportedly discovered bundles of cash, which further escalated the situation. Skales alleged that they said, “So you have money and don’t want to give us? We’ll deal with you today.” Despite their threats, nothing incriminating was found in the car. After verifying his vehicle’s documents, the officers eventually let him go, but not without continued remarks.
Skales concluded his rant expressing his dislike for the police, writing: “I will never respect those fools. Useless people. All they know how to do is stop Benz cars. When real trouble happens, they’re nowhere to be found. Foolish idiots.”
