After weeks of anticipation, Shallipopi has released his new single, “Laho.” The song, released on February 21st, is his first of 2025 and had previously generated significant buzz on TikTok after Shallipopi teased it on his social media.
Shallipopi, known for his distinctive blend of Amapiano fusion and hip-hop, incorporating Benin-influenced slang and lyrics, has quickly become a prominent figure in Nigerian music. “Laho” continues this trend, featuring a catchy chorus, pidgin lyrics, and street slang that have resonated with fans.
This release marks a new chapter for Shallipopi, as it’s his first since leaving Dapper Music due to disagreements over financial transparency, conflict of interest, and a proposed “forever contract.” “Laho” is released under his own Plutomania Records Ltd, in partnership with RCA/Sony UK.
The start of 2025 has been promising for Shallipopi. He recently received six Headies nominations, including a nod for the Next Rated Prize. “Laho” follows his November 2024 single “Order” featuring Olamide, and is expected to be a lead single for his upcoming album, slated for release sometime in 2025. Shallipopi has hinted that the album will feature a guest appearance from American rapper Swae Lee.
As of today, the track has since been removed from Spotify by Dapper Music. The removal stems from a contractual dispute: upon terminating their agreement in December 2024, Shallipopi was reportedly prohibited from releasing new music until 2026.
