Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has taken to social media to express his disdain for individuals who showcase their wealth at school reunion events. According to Omokri, such displays of affluence are not only unnecessary but also insensitive to the struggles of others.
Omokri questioned the intentions of those who arrive at reunions in luxury vehicles like Bentleys or wear high-end accessories such as Rolex watches. He described the act as “cruel,” warning that flaunting wealth in such settings could trigger feelings of inadequacy, depression, or even suicidal thoughts among former classmates who may not have achieved the same level of success.
The former presidential aide urged people to show empathy and be mindful of others’ realities, emphasizing that reunions should be about reconnecting, not showing off. “We know you are successful. But don’t go to your school’s reunion party with your Rolex and Bentley. It is just cruel!” Omokri wrote.
Omokri’s comments sparked a conversation on social media, with many agreeing that flaunting wealth at school reunions can be hurtful and insensitive. Others argued that individuals should be free to celebrate their successes without being judged.
Regardless of the opinions, Omokri’s statement highlights the importance of empathy and being mindful of others’ realities. As he aptly put it, “You don’t help, and you still want to oppress. What type of wickedness is that? You all started with nothing together. And nothing will follow you when you leave this world as we all must!“
