The Press Union of Liberia has announced that its President, Charles B. Coffey has been discharged from the John F. Kennedy Medical Center after a week of treatment for a broken thigh.
President Coffey and his driver were admitted to the referral hospital after they were hit by a commercial vehicle while getting off a motorbike, which instantly killed the operator of the motorbike and left Coffey with a fractured thigh and a dislocated knee.
According to the PUL release, President Coffey has been discharged and is required to report to the JFK medical center after eight days for further medical examination. Progressive checks with doctors at the hospital was scheduled based on future scans and healing progression, PUL stressed.
The Union said President Coffey is currently at his home in Brewerville, nursing his injuries, and thereby requested everyone continual prayers for President Coffey’s speedy recovery.
Last Thursday, the Press Union of Liberia announced that surgery intending to repair the fracture thigh and dislocated knee of its President, Charles B. Coffey, Jr. had gone on successfully at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.
President Coffey was returned to his hospital chamber stable, where underwent monitoring by medical professionals, including skilled Doctors for four hours, release from the PUL noted.
It may be recalled, a commercial car struck President Coffey and his driver, instantly killing the motorbike’s operator and leaving Coffey with a fractured thigh and a dislocated knee along the Buchannan City, Grand Bassa County, en route from Grand Kru County,on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
The outgoing President of the Press Union of Liberia, Charles Coffey sustained a broken leg in a devastating road accident.
According to Musa Kanneh, the outgoing Secretary General of the Press Union of Liberia, Mr. Coffey and his driver were traveling along the Firestone-Buchanan highway when one of the vehicle’s tires punctured, forcing them to come to a halt.
In an effort to reach Buchanan for repairs or a replacement tire, the PUL Boss and his driver enlisted the services of a commercial motorcyclist.
Tragically, while en route to Buchanan on the motorcycle, a speeding vehicle collided with them, causing the motorbike rider to lose his life and resulting in injuries to Mr. Coffey and his driver. The severity of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
