Pres. Weah Begins Bong County Engagement With Dedication of New Salala Market

President George M. Weah arrived in Bong County Monday, September 11, to a tulmutous welcome by throngs of citizens first at Nyanforlah, Salala District, Distinct 6 before cruising through a plethora of towns and villages of the central province.

The President’s visit is in continuation of his nationwide citizens engagement exercises aimed at consolidating national support for his reelection in the 2023 general and presidential elections.

The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) hit Bong County also carrying out official duties with the dedication of a new market building in Salala, fulfilling yet another development milestone that rekindles the marketers’ hope.

Flanked by officials of government, as well as leaders of the Salala Marketing Association, President Weah cut the ribbon to the building and later toured it, while expressing appreciation to the citizens for cooperating with the team that constructed the market.

The Salala Market is in fulfillment of promise made during his county tour when market women and citizens appealed to him for a market structure. The project is implemented by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment in collaboration with the President Delivery Unit (PDU).

As late as 8pm, the president and entourage arrived in Gbartala, where swarms of residents – elderly and youth – had waited for the party for most of the day.

Frenzy of celebrations – dancing, singing, chanting battle cries – that consumed the quiet of the relatively populous town hardly diminished throughout the day prior to the president’s arrival.

As is often the case with all of his campaign tours, the president was heaped with praises and commendations for a successful first term, something the citizens of Gbartala said make him worthy for reelection.

The Chief Executive thanked the people for the warm reception and for their patience in waiting long hours to receive him and delegation.

He said such a genuine demonstration of love, respect, and adoration shown him by the citizens further energizes him to want to continue to serve the people of Liberia with all his strength and commitment.

He told the Gbartala citizens that with all they had enumerated as his first term achievements, the best is yet to come. “I can promise you that so much good things are in the offing for the people of this country during my second term,” he said amid thunderous applauses.

“With my reelection which you have also promised, you can rest assured I shall not fail you. The best is yet to come.”

He said Liberians should ignore his critics because their intent is to disrupt and possibly quash the enormous gains made in the last six years and thereby inhibit the potentially prosperous trajectory of the country. “Don’t mind them,” he growled. “Ignore them. Reject them.”
