Barima Sidney crooned the NPP version of ‘Onaapo’
According to the first time this report broke on a sister station in Kumasi, we were told that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, says he has banned the party’s official campaign song ‘Onaapo’ (which in the Ga language which means ‘you won’t even get’) in his house, because he suffers heart attack anytime he hears the song being played on the airwaves after their humiliating defeat in the 2016 general elections.
The song even went intensively-viral when hiplife musician Barima Sidney made the NPP version of the song by titled “Time Aso” uploaded on YouTube on December 9, 2016, two days after the election with over two hundred thousand views; so this trauma has added up to Chairman, Mr. Owusu Obimpeh’s headache.
But it became popular after the defeat of the then ruling party when supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) adopted it as their victory song after their leader Nana Akufo-Addo won unprecedentedly by a margin of over one million votes. Based on this, Adom FM, during an interview with the NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman revealed that the NPP‘s rendition of ‘Onaapo’ even made Obimpeh’s defeat very painful.
Do you think that the Chairman is overreacting or he is truly in pains? Let’s have our say.
