Afrobeats singer Peter Okoye, one half of the now-defunct duo P-Square, has revealed that fans played a major role in the group’s infamous split.
Speaking during the AYLIVE show, Peter claimed that the constant comparisons and favoritism from fans sowed discord between him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye. According to him, this external pressure fueled egos and ultimately led to the duoās collapse.
āFans are the reason P-Square no dey together today,ā Peter said during his performance. āTwo brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.ā
P-Square first broke up in 2017 after years of growing tension over management, finances, and creative direction. Their elder brother, Jude Okoyeāwho also managed the group and co-owned their label, PClassic Recordsāwas drawn into the controversy during the messy split.
The group, which formed in 1997, became one of Africa’s biggest music acts with hits like āBizzy Body,ā āE No Easy,ā and āPersonally,ā performing to sold-out stadiums across the continent.
In a separate development, the feud between the Okoye brothers appears to be ongoing. Earlier in February, Paul publicly blamed Peter for their brother Judeās current legal issues. Following Judeās bail hearing, Paul told the press, āThe truth is reports are making it look like Jude is a fraud, but letās call a spade a spadeāPeter is the one putting Jude through this. Iām here to bring him out, but Peter is the cause.ā
Despite a brief reunion in 2021, tensions within the family have resurfaced, casting doubt on the possibility of a long-term reconciliation.
