Chart-topping rapper OdumoduBlvck has shared the inspiring story of how music legend and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy contributed to his latest project and gifted him $10,000.
Speaking in an interview with Beats FM, OdumoduBlvck described Don Jazzy as the most authentic figure in the Nigerian music industry.
The rapper discussed his latest album, Nothing Changed, a joint effort with the Anti-World Gangsters crew. One of the standout tracks, Asampete, features a guest verse from Don Jazzy.
Recounting how the collaboration came about, OdumoduBlvck explained that after recording the song, he felt Don Jazzy’s touch was exactly what it needed. When he reached out, the music icon graciously agreed to lend his vocals to the track.
OdumoduBlvck revealed that during his visit to Don Jazzy’s house to finalize the recording, the legendary producer surprised him with $10,000 in cash while also refusing to accept royalties for his contribution. “When I went to his house to get his vocals, he gave me $10,000. Even my friend was asking why he gave me such a huge amount,” the rapper recalled during the interview.
He heaped praise on Don Jazzy, calling him “the most original personality in the Nigerian music industry.” OdumoduBlvck added, “The way younger artists today look up to Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Olamide is how people used to look up to Don Jazzy. There’s nobody more original than him.”
OdumoduBlvck’s sentiments echo those of other artists who have publicly celebrated Don Jazzy’s generosity and influence over the years. Superstar Davido once credited Don Jazzy and D’banj’s larger-than-life persona as the inspiration for his decision to pursue a music career in Nigeria.
Beyond his contributions to music, Don Jazzy has also made headlines for his philanthropy. Recently, he donated 100 million naira to the charity of media personality and philanthropist Very Dark Man, further cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
