Nigerian Paralympic Champion, Esther Oyema gets Four-Year Ban

Nigerian Paralympic powerlifting champion, Esther Oyema has been banned for four years after a prohibited substance was found in her urine.

Oyema, who won a gold medal at London 2012 in the women’s 48kg, will no longer be eligible to compete for four years starting from May 3, 2019, to May 2, 2023.

According to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the ban is as a result of Oyema’s violation of the anti-dope rule. A substance known as 19-norandrosterone was found in the urine sample she provided on January 28, 2019.

Asides the ban, she has also been stripped of the gold medal she won in the women’s 55kg competition alongside the points and the prizes.
