Nigerian Girls Are At Great Risk Of Abuse – Kate Henshaw

The two murdered girls

Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has bemoaned what seems to be decades-old institutionalized violence against girls and women in Nigeria.

According to her, “the life of the girl is at great risk.”

She has therefore in a tweet sighted by African Entertainment, called punitive actions to be meted out to those who perpetuate violence against women and girls.

“We need actionable punishment as a strong deterrent,” the veteran actress said.

Her call comes on the heel of the alleged killings of two Nigerian girls named Tina Ezekwe and Vera Omozuwa.

Nigerian celebrities have been lending their voices to help get justice for the two girls.

One of them, 16-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by a police officer and the 22-year-old was raped and beaten to death in a church.

On May 27, the shocking reports of the death of a 16-year-old girl who was gunned down by a trigger happy police officer in Iyana Oworo area of Lagos State emerged.

According to an eye witness report, the teenager known as Tina Ezekwe was mistakenly shot when the police officer opened fire on a bus driver who violated the curfew order.

Tina was rushed to a hospital where she was rejected because the first responders demanded a police report before treatment. She died two days later.

Apparently speaking about the murders, Madam Henshaw says
“The #NigerianWoman needs to feel safe everywhere! The church, home etc..She needs to know she can go out and be all that she can be without fear of harassment, rape or murder.”

“The life of the girl child is at great risk. We need actionable punishment as a strong deterrent,” she added.
