After nearly 5 months of permanent closure, the Nigerian federal government is finally ready to lift the ban on international flights.
Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika announced via Twitter on Monday that international flights will resume on August 29, 2020.
He tweeted: “Glad to announce the resumption of international flights from the 29th of August, 2020. Beginning with Lagos and Abuja as we did with the domestic flight resumption. Protocols and procedures will be announced in due course. We thank you for your patience”.
This comes in the wake of July’s resumption of local flights in the country and amid the coronavirus pandemic which prompted the closure back in March 2020.
Nigeria now has 49,485 confirmed cases with a record of 977 deaths. Multiple reports claim the country reduced testing due to insufficient testing kits. While this claim is unconfirmed, the country has 417 active cases.
