Popular Nigerian content creator and activist, Debo Adedayo, aka Mr. Macaroni, has expressed his discontent with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s handling of the Independence Bridge repairs in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had apologized for the traffic issues caused by the repairs and asked Lagosians for their understanding, explaining that the repairs are necessary for safety reasons since the bridge has been in use for over 80 years.
However, Mr. Macaroni feels that the government’s actions demonstrate a lack of regard for the welfare of the people. “If the government had any regard whatsoever for the people of Lagos, these measures and more extensive ones would have been taken before yesterday to make this process as painless as possible for the people,” he wrote on his social media handle.
Mr. Macaroni argued that there should have been adequate planning, including a reasonable timeline for execution and proper information dissemination, to prevent the unbearable hardship that Lagosians are currently facing.
He also criticized the government’s lack of responsibility to the people, stating that the federal and state governments’ inability to collaborate on projects despite being from the same party reflects poorly on the quality of leadership.
