Music Producer and CEO of Highly Spiritual Music Kaywa has clarified the situation that caused YouTube to delete his signed ace Mr Drew’s song featuring Stonebwoy titled ‘eat’ over copyright.
African Entertainment yesterday reported that Mr drew’s song was deleted from video sharing platform YouTube after the American Nigerian singer claimed ownership of the song, even though it was credited.
The incident has been trending on social media for almost 48 hours, with social media users trolling the ‘Power’ star for his actions.
Kaywa in a statement sighted by African Entertainment has however cleared the air, saying “Our attention has been drawn to news circulating that our artiste, Mr Drew has stolen a song “Love Riddim” belonging to Rotimi, an America/Nigerian artiste. The song was a ‘cover version’ a remake or revival of the original performance and on every occasion our Artiste credited the originator ‘Rotimi’.”
The statement noted however that both acts are having a friendly conversation. The label further took all blame for the incident and promised it wont repeat itself.
“We want to state emphatically that our Label is privy to all the copyrights Infringement Laws and as such we wouldn’t do such a thing intentionally. There was a little miscommunication between our digital publisher and that of Rotimi’s which caused them to block the video on copyright grounds. Moreover, the label is in talks with the rightful outfit and Mr Drew is in a friendly conversation with Rotimi.”
The statement added “we unequivocally take the blame and promise to make sure this never happens again in the future.”
