Morocco Beat Portugal: Africa Gets first Rep In World Cup Semifinals

For the first time of the world cup, there will be an African nation in the semi-finals, thanks to Morocco’s historic victory over Portugal.

Morocco won their quarterfinal match against Portugal on Saturday afternoon, December 10, 2022.

En-Nesyri scored the historic goal in the 42nd minute.

Since the first world cup held in Uruguay in 1930, no African nation has crossed the quarterfinal stage.

Cameroon was the first African nation in the 1990 to progress to the quarterfinal.

In 2002, Senegal progressed to the quarterfinal when they were defeated by Turkey.

Ghana made it to the Quarterfinal in South Africa in 2010 and were defeated by Uruguay on penalties.

Morocco have been in excellent form since the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, top their Group with seven points over Croatia, Belgium and Canada.
