Senegal’s talisman, Sadio Mane, has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
According to the Football Federation of Senegal, Mane was ruled out due to an injury to his right fibula.
“Unfortunately, today’s [Thursday] MRI shows us that the improvement is not as favourable as we imagined and unfortunately, we have to withdraw Sadio from the World Cup,” says Manuel Afonso, Senegal’s team doctor.
Mane sustained the injury while playing for Bayern Munich against Werder Bremen during a Bundesliga game on November 8, 2022.
Senegal will play their first game in the World Cup against Netherlands on Monday, November 21, 2022. Four days later, they will play host Qatar and the face South American side, Ecuador in their last Group A match on November 29, 2022.
