The MoMo Heroes of Change program held under the theme celebrating Liberia’s the resilient spirit, showcases the selfless work done by individuals in their communities in health, education, youth, women’s development, tech solutions, and community impact.
MTN globally adopted the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative that encourages the private sector to align business strategies with the universal principles on human rights, labor, the environment and act on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN adopted the SDGs in 2015 as a call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 everyone enjoys peace and prosperity.
Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Financial Services General Manager, Christopher Ssali said that mobile money employs over 25,000 agents across the country. Through the sales of products and services, these young people can lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
”The MoMo Heroes of Change program is an opportunity for us to work with you to identify and give back to individuals that have been instrumental in improving people’s lives in communities within which we operate,’” he noted.
Lonestar Cell MTN’s Chief Executive Officer, Rahul De, believes that MoMo Heroes of Change seeks to discover and celebrate people across Liberia who is giving back to their communities in extraordinary and impactful ways.
“Heroes of Change recognize and reward the gallant spirit of heroism that everyday people display through resilience, ingenuity, and innovation. Ultimately, we want to transform the social and economic wellbeing of Liberians in under-served and under resourced communities,” he said.
Beginning March 28, 2023, Liberians will have two weeks to nominate individuals or organizations involved in making a difference in their communities. Anyone can nominate an individual on Lonestar Cell MTN’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
From those nominations, the Heroes of Change Panel of judges with expertise in health, education, youth and women’s empowerment, technology, and community development, will evaluate and select 30 entries for the public to consider.
From there, two public voting elimination rounds will take place. The five remaining contestants will compete in finals where three winners will emerge. The winners will receive substantial financial awards to continue their community work.
