Liberia’s head coach, Peter Butler has reportedly reacted to Bomi County Senator, Edwin Snowe and others, who are calling for his head to roll.
Following Liberia’s 2-0 defeat to Morocco on Monday night in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Senator Snowe launched a steamed campaign on facebook, calling for the Lone Star coach to be fired.
The Senator’s post suggests that Butler’s performance has proven his inability to manage the Liberian national team and as such, it’s now time that LFA sacked Butler and replaced him with former Liberia international James Salinsa Debbah.
But, reacting to Senator Snowe and others, Butler wonders if those demanding his sack are upset because of his great ability to get along with the Liberian people, whom he holds in high esteem.
Coach Butler further asserted that the players like him because he educates them.
“Why are they calling for my head? Is it because I promote young players or because we tried to play good football,” he wondered.
“Is it because we [Liberia] have not played a game at home in nearly three years or because I built a team on a low budget,” Butler, who has a contract with Liberia until the end of August asked.
However, below is Bomi County Senator, Edwin Melvin Snowe post, following Lone Star home game against Morocco at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
“As President of the Liberia Football Association, I had a foreign coach who wasn’t delivering and so, I fired him and appointed George Manneh Weah as Technical Director of the team and guess what?
“George Weah delivered and took the Lone Star to the Africa Cup of Nations. It’s now time that we fire the coach and appoint James Salinsa as coach of the national team.”
