Liberia Women’s Lower League To Benefit US$50K From FIFA

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced that World Governing Body, FIFA has approved US$50K to the Association for its women’s lower league development.

This follows after LFA in November of 2021 distributed a supply of FIFA Adidas materials valued over US$5,000 to the 12 teams (now 11) in the women’s lower division league.

LFA, through its Executive Committee and Women’s Development and Technical Committees, applied for the Club Licensing and League Development projects with emphasis on the lower women’s division league.

The LFA divided US$13,920 of the funds among the 11 clubs in the lower women’s division (US$1,160 per club) as assistance for players’ transportation for training and rental of buses to honor league games.

“The rest of the funds will be used for several activities towards the development of the league under the supervision of the women’s football committee headed by executive committee member Jodie Reid-Seton,” the FA said in a release.

They include marketing and administrative seminars for personnel of clubs, refresher course for coaches, refresher and training courses for old and new female referees, indemnities for referees, payment of stipend to former female players who have turned to coaches and continuous coaching education for former female players engaged with clubs.

At the end of the league, recipients of the FIFA women’s football development funds must report to the LFA through the reporting policies and standards.

Launched in September 2020, the program was introduced to further develop women’s football on a sustainable basis whilst simultaneously pushing it forward into the mainstream, according to FIFA.

It affords member associations to apply for support across eight key areas of women’s football development during the 2020-2023 period.

The eight key areas include, Women’s Football Strategy, Women’s Football Campaign, League Development, Club Licensing, Capacity-Building for Administrators, Coach Education Scholarships, Coach Mentorship, and Women in Football Leadership.
