LFA 2023: Full List Of Winners

The 1th edition of the Liberia Film Awards (LFA) which held in Monrovia saw the display of glamour and glitz from talents within the entertainment industry.

The award ceremony showcased performances from top acts in the Liberian music industry including Mc Caro and Jzyno who thrilled the audience with their songs and moves.

Prior to the magical evening created at the first LFA’s, the Journey Home Festival was held! The weekend opened with the popular filmmakers’ workshop which was taught by Dr. Clarice Ford-Kulah, Van Vicker, and Alexander Wiaplah!

Van Vicker, also facilitated the Actors Round Table Luncheon where students had opportunities to ask him as many acting/filmmaking questions as possible. Session lasted for over two hours as students had many questions.

On Saturday, morning the top 3 featured films were screened. However, the festival and awards co-founders handed out prices to both the top 3 featured and top 3 short films! Picking up the Canon camera at first place was Korto Davis “Evil Lives Here”, and second place was Alexander Wiaplah’s “Wheel and Deal”, why Mamadee Sannoh’s “The Forest”, came third.

The short film winners were: “Gifted Voice”, directed by Luther Mafallah which came first, and “A Sting in My Heart”, by Gardea Mayon took second and “Liberty”, by Diamond Sonpon took third place.

Each winner received monetary prizes for their outstanding contributions to the film industry.

The LFA is an accolade recognizing outstanding achievement in the film industry.

Veteran director Alexander Wuaplah popularly known as Ush, took home the Best Cinematography Award for his admirable service to the film industry. Korto Davis “Evil Lives Here”, grabbed multiple awards in different categories.

This year’s edition was hosted by Cypha D King and Shoana Cochelle.

8. Best New Actor – Sekou M. Sirleaf

9. Best New Actress – Ertamar Thompson

10. Best Cinematography – Alexander Wiaplah

11. Best Original Score – Alexander Wiaplah

12. Best Indigenous Film – The Forest

14. Best Costume – The Forest

13. Best Production Design – Gardea Mayon “Needing a Man”.

14. Best Short Films: A sting in my heart, tied with Director Luther Mafallah short film “Beyond The Mask

15. Best Supporting Actor – Joseph Weah for Wheel and Deal

16. Best Supporting Actress- Mercy Deen for “Needing a Man”, which tied with Ertamar Thompson – Evil Lives Here

17. Best Series – Ma Etta’s Localee

18. Best Documentary – Unity through Migration: The Story of Liberia

19. Best Editing – Joseph F. Doe for Secret

20. Best Visual Effects – The Hunters

21. Best Comedy – Angel Michael

22. Best Content Creator – Royda Urey

22. Best Film Shot in the Diaspora – Mother’s Tongue

24. Best Actor in the Diaspora – Diezie Dunbar

25. Best Actress in the Diaspora – Diamond Sonpon

26. Best Director in the Diaspora – Alvin Nyemah/Kade Hill
