Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeats sensation, Kuami Eugene, recently disclosed that he has played a pivotal role in numerous chart-topping songs within the country, yet he has remained unrecognized for his contributions.
In an upcoming interview with Kojo Manuel, the artist, signed under Lynx Entertainment, candidly expressed how he has used his songwriting prowess to craft some of Ghana’s most iconic tracks, all while receiving no acknowledgment or compensation for his efforts.
“It’s a rather unjust situation,” he lamented. “People seem to think I’ll let it slide, but I’ve been the creative force behind several of Ghana’s biggest hits. However, I haven’t seen a single penny for my contributions.”
Kuami Eugene went on to explain that during his early days in the music industry, he willingly collaborated with certain artists out of sheer passion and admiration. Yet, as he marks his seventh year in the industry, he firmly believes it’s time for these individuals to honor their obligations.
“Some of them are aware of this, and it’s truly disheartening,” he continued. “I was a budding artist back then, so I can understand to some extent. I even penned songs for certain artists purely out of affection for their work. But now, in my seventh year in the industry, it’s time for them to settle their debts.”
This revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by emerging artists and the importance of acknowledging and compensating creative contributors within the music industry.
