One of the convicted accomplices in the infamous Kim Kardashian Paris robbery has died just weeks after receiving his sentence. French media confirm that Didier Dubreucq, also known as “Blue Eyes,” passed away after battling lung cancer. He had been undergoing chemotherapy while in detention and awaiting trial.
Dubreucq, 69, was among the group of elderly criminals dubbed the “grandpa robbers,” who shocked the world with their meticulously planned heist of Kardashian’s luxury apartment in 2016. The gang stole an estimated £7.5 million worth of jewellery, including a £3 million engagement ring from then-husband Kanye West.
The Paris heist occurred on October 3, 2016, when Kim Kardashian was alone in her hotel room. Two men dressed as police officers entered after handcuffing the concierge. The reality star was bound, gagged, and held at gunpoint while the robbers ransacked the room. The traumatic event was later documented in an emotional episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
During his trial, Dubreucq denied holding Kardashian at gunpoint, but prosecutors presented compelling evidence. He was ultimately convicted of aggravated theft and armed robbery. In his testimony, Dubreucq broke down, expressing regret about his criminal past. “I told my son, ‘I hope you don’t become like your father,’” he said.
Kim Kardashian, who has since taken extra security precautions, previously described the incident as life-changing. She feared for her life, recalling, “I thought, ‘They’re just going to shoot me in the head.’” She was later found in the bathtub after managing to free herself.
With Didier Dubreucq’s death, the saga takes another dramatic turn. The Kim Kardashian Paris robbery remains one of the most shocking celebrity crimes in modern history and continues to resurface in discussions about social media safety, celebrity security, and justice for high-profile victims.
