Kenyan government has placed a new ban on marriage ceremonies shortly after reopening its Sheria House marriage registry.
According to Nairobi News, the Department of Registrar General in the Ministry of Attorney-General and Department Services recently noticed an overwhelming surge in the number of couples seeking to be legally bound especially from its Sheria House registry.
The government’s decision to halt activities at the registry stems from the increasing concerns that violating Covid-19’s social distancing guideline posits.
In a statement on the temporal ban, Registrar General Mary Njuya said: “As a result, the Office has temporary halted all marriage services in order to develop a clear roadmap on reopening in an organized manner as guided by the Ministry of Health and to further ensure that safety measures are undertaken in the workplace.”
