Joeboy, Johnny Drille React As FG Unveils New Naira Notes

Nigerian artists, Joeboy and Johnny Drille have reacted individually to the redesigned Naira notes that were recently unveiled.

The redesigned naira notes in the denominations of N200, N500, and N1,000 were unveiled by the president, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, 23/11/22, morning.

President Buhari unveiled the notes in the State House Council Chambers moments before the start of the week’s Federal Executive Council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor, Godwin Emefiele has responded to queries from reporters after the event, claiming that nobody was the target of the action.

He Said:

“This move is to enable the Central Bank of Nigeria have control over the size of money in circulation

“There is no need to think that the programme is targeted at anyone. During my speech at the unveiling, I said that plans for this started early in the year. We considered the pros and cons carefully.

“In the past, attempts to redesign and reissue currencies have been resisted. Only a President of Muhammadu Buhari’s character could have made it happen,”.

The CBN governor also made it known that Nigerians have much time to return the old notes in circulation adding that the apex bank will not extend the January 31, 2023 deadline.

Emefiele continued that the apex bank will now redesign the currency after every five to eight years, as stated by the constitution.

However, Many Nigerians don’t seem to accept the new designs as they claimed that they looked just like the old notes only with different colours.

Notable singers like Joeboy and Johnny Drille also expressed their thoughts on the new designs.

Joebboy quoting the announcement of the Naira redesign launch, wrote;

“Wowww so creative 💀”

While Johnny Drille wrote;

“These new notes are uglier”
