The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Asad Ahmad Khan KC, arrived at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday. During his visit, he is scheduled to address the assembly and engage with key stakeholders, including President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone.
In a tweet on Monday, the ICC confirmed Khan’s arrival to the UN General Assembly adding that the King’s Counsel will address the relationship between international criminal law and the threat of cybercrimes.
As part of his schedule in New York, the ICC Prosecutor will meet President Julius Maada Bio whom he extended an invitation to, earlier in August. Although the detail of the meeting is not particularly clear, the ICC said their “Office attaches great importance to this meeting and hopes its request can be accommodated.”
Sierra Leone’s Information Minister, Chernor Bah said the invitation is to “discuss Sierra Leone’s leadership with regard to matters related to the ICC” and the country’s “tenure as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.”
