The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, says he has taken delivery of some seized illegal mining excavators.
It would be recalled that the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Otchere-Darko Mensah, a couple of days ago announced that the regional security team had seized some 16 excavators being used for alleged illegal mining activities.
In an interview with African Entertainment and other media outlets after holding a meeting with the Western Regional Security team, Mr. Otchere-Darko Mensah, and MMDCEs, Mr. Jinapor noted that he will give the media a comprehensive update on the excavators seized so far.
He stated that there should be no fear or favor in dealing with persons allegedly involved in Galamsey.
He therefore charged the Western Regional security council to enforce laws regarding small scale mining and related activities in the region.
He said the law enforcement component of galamsay continues to be the mandate of the National security and the regional security council”.
The Minister added that no one was above the law as far as small scale mining was concerned, stressing that there is no colourasation in the fight against Galamsey.
The Minister called for increased support to curb the illegal mining menace and commended the Regional minister for taking a bold step in that direction especially on the recent seizure of 16 excavators in the Region.
