George Britton Speaks On What Ghana Needs to do to get representation in the Grammys

Ghanaian media personality and talent manager George Mensah Britton has highlighted the important role that record labels play in helping musicians gain global recognition and win big awards like the Grammys.

Speaking on The Chat on Channel One TV, George who also happens to be Camidoh’s former manager shared his concerns about Ghana’s continued absence from the Grammy winners’ list. He believes Ghana needs a better music industry structure that focuses on promotion and marketing, not just raw talent.

He used Nigerian singer Tems as an example, noting how she won Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards, beating stars like Burna Boy and Yemi Alade.

According to George, Nigerian artists succeed internationally because their record labels and managers invest in marketing and promotion. He believes Ghanaian musicians have the talent but lack the support and industry structure to compete on the world stage.

“Talent is not the problem. In Nigeria, music executives spend money on promotion, but in Ghana, we only focus on talent. People only talk about our musicians when they are around, but in Nigeria, teams work hard to keep their artists relevant worldwide,” Britton explained.

With Tems’ Grammy win as proof, George urged Ghanaian artists and industry leaders to adopt a more strategic approach to music promotion, just like Nigeria. While it’s unclear if Ghana will make these changes, the discussion about building a stronger music industry is growing.
