He believes that Afrobeats has been primarily focused on creating a certain vibe, but he emphasizes the importance of infusing the genre with more soul and meaningful lyricism. During a recent interview with Billboard News, the ‘Vibration’ hitmaker shared his thoughts on the state of Afrobeats music. He believes that for music to truly resonate with listeners, artists need to delve deeper into their emotions and personal experiences. According to Fireboy DML, the Afrobeats scene before his arrival was heavily focused on creating a vibe, but he noticed a lack of pure soul and lyrical depth in the music. In his own words, “The Afrobeats scene before I came in was built on vibes. But I realized that there was something lacking, and that was pure soul and lyricism in our music.”
