Manchester City’s prolific goal-scorer Erling Haaland is set for an extended spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury sustained during the FA Cup quarterfinal win against Bournemouth. Haaland had just achieved a milestone 30th goal of the season when he was hurt in a challenge by midfielder Lewis Cook.

Following scans on Monday, Manchester City announced that Haaland will consult a specialist to determine the full extent of the injury. While the club has not provided a specific timeline for Haaland’s recovery, they expect him to be fit before the end of the season.

This injury setback comes at a critical juncture for Manchester City, who are battling to secure a Champions League spot for next season. Currently fifth in the Premier League, City has nine rounds remaining to break into the top four. Additionally, they face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley on April 26.

Manchester City’s official statement read: “Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

As Haaland begins his rehabilitation journey, Manchester City will be hoping for a swift recovery to bolster their chances of achieving their season objectives.
