DR Congo holding burial service for Lumumba’s tooth

The Democratic Republic of Congo is today, Thursday, June 30, 2022, holding a burial ceremony for the tooth of its independence leader Patrice Lumumba.

The ceremony is taking place in the capital Kinshasa.

As African Entertainment earlier reported, a gold tooth is all that remains of Mr Lumumba.

Mr. Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of DR Congo, was killed in 1961 by separatist rebels in collusion with Belgian mercenaries.

His body was then dissolved in acid. His tooth was kept by a Belgian police officer as a trophy.

The tooth was returned to his family at a ceremony held in Brussels last week.

Subsequently, the tooth was returned to DR Congo and has since toured several parts of the African nation.

The tooth has been placed in a coffin draped with the flag of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
