Donald Trump Unveils New Trade Policy: “Reciprocal Tariffs” to Ensure Fairness and Prosperity

Former US President Donald Trump has taken to his X handle to announce a new trade policy, which he claims will bring fairness and prosperity back to the US. The policy, dubbed “Reciprocal Tariffs,” aims to charge countries the same tariffs they impose on the US.

According to Trump, the policy will consider countries that use the Value-Added Tax (VAT) system, which he claims is “far more punitive than a tariff,” to be similar to a tariff. He also warned that sending merchandise through another country to unfairly harm America will not be accepted.

Trump’s policy will also make provisions for subsidies provided by countries to take economic advantage of the US, as well as non-monetary tariffs and trade barriers that some countries charge to keep US products out of their markets.

The former president claims that this system will immediately bring fairness and prosperity back to the US, which he believes has been treated unfairly by other countries for many years. He has instructed his Secretary of State, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of the Treasury, and United States Trade Representative (USTR) to implement the policy.
