Diddy’s Lawyer Withdraws Ahead of Sex Trafficking Trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal defense team is undergoing a change as one of his attorneys has filed to withdraw from his upcoming sex trafficking trial.1 Anthony Ricco submitted a motion to withdraw in February 2025, through an affidavit filed in Manhattan federal court.2

In his filing, Ricco stated, “Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs. It is respectfully but regrettably requested that the court grant the relief requested.” While Ricco did not provide specific reasons for his departure, he indicated that the decision was made following discussions with Combs’ lead counsel, Marc Agnifilo.

However, Ricco’s withdrawal is not yet finalized. A judge must review and approve the motion, requiring sufficient justification before granting the request. Combs will continue to be represented by his remaining legal team, which includes Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, among five other attorneys.

This development comes amidst a series of legal challenges for Combs. He was arrested on September 17, 2024, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan by Homeland Security Investigations, and has since been held in custody. The arrest followed a wave of sexual assault allegations and lawsuits, notably beginning with accusations from his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

Combs faces charges of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and racketeering, among others.4 In the lead-up to his trial, he was recently transported from prison to a hospital for an MRI scan.5 Sources confirm that the late-night transfer was conducted to minimize attention from other inmates and prison staff. After the procedure, Combs was returned to his cell within a few hours, and did not stay overnight at the hospital.
