British-Nigerian rapper and singer Darkoo, whose real name is Oluwafisayo Isa, has caused a stir on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The “Favorite Girl” singer has in a series of viral tweets accused Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, of the defunct famous music duo P-Square of trying to sabotage her latest music video, ‘Focus on Me.’
The video was removed from YouTube for six days due to a copyright claim. Darkoo shared that Mr P had pressured her to let him feature on the song, but she refused. She explained that she had all the legal permissions for the sample used in the song and followed all the necessary rules before releasing it. She added that she was open to collaborating with Mr P for a remix in the future but not for the original version.
“I didn’t want to talk about this, but my music video was taken down for six days by Peter of Psquare to try and ruin the song. Thankfully, it’s back up now. Let me be clear: I got all the needed clearance for the sample. I’ve done this before, and I made sure everything was done properly,” Darkoo wrote in one of her tweets.
Darkoo also mentioned that Mr P’s twin brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, supported her during the issue. Jude, who is well-known in the Nigerian music industry, helped sort out the problem, while Paul gave her encouragement to keep going.
Fans have had mixed reactions to the situation. Some supported Darkoo for standing her ground and protecting her work, while others felt she could have handled the issue privately. Many also called for better ways to resolve conflicts in the music industry to avoid public arguments that can damage reputations.
