Craig David and Tiwa Savage Connect on “Commitment”. WATCH Its Music Video Here

R&B icon Craig David famously known for hits like “Walking Away,” has a captivating new single, “Commitment”. This highly banging collaboration features female Afrobeats power house Tiwa Savage. The song delves into the complexities of modern relationships, as produced by the talented Mike Brainchild.

“Commitment” seamlessly blends Afrobeats, pop, and R&B, creating a sonic landscape that mirrors the emotional tension explored in the lyrics. The track portrays a relationship navigating turbulent waters, with both artists offering their perspectives on the challenges faced.

Craig David’s verses depict a man feeling undervalued, expressing his frustration with efforts that go unnoticed. “Every time I show you vibes you cannot see it / Every time I tell the truth you don’t believe it,” he sings in the chorus, highlighting a sense of disconnect. Tiwa Savage counters with her own narrative, explaining her emotional distance as a response to the demands of a partner’s ambition. “We fell in love instantly. You’re a man on a mission. Stacking your paper. So I kept a distance babe,” she reveals. Yet, amidst the tension, a lingering spark of desire remains, as evidenced by lines like, “Mmm, but I still want it all night. Undo this dress, show me your might.”

While in interview on Capital XTRA Breakfast, Craig David shared the story behind the collaboration. The song’s theme, exploring the realities of commitment beyond the initial romantic phase, prompted the search for a suitable collaborator. “The song was about commitment, about a relationship, and about what it’s like,” he explained. “It’s all good — the romantic phase. But what’s it like when you’ve got to dig deep, when you’re like, ‘OK, it’s getting a bit tough here.’ And we were like, ‘But who could pan this?’ And everyone unanimously, weirdly enough, said, ‘What about Tiwa Savage?’ I said, ‘Tiwa Savage!’”

He further elaborated on Tiwa’s enthusiastic response, emphasizing her genuine connection to the project. “She came back so graciously, and she said the other day, ‘Listen, even if the song wasn’t that great, like the 70% you’re done, I still would have jumped on it.’ I was like, ‘This is love.’ So, she jumped on it, and next thing you know, we’ve got this song that, for me, it sort of embodies both of our worlds, and it feels legit, and it hits the right spot.”

The “Commitment” music video was released yesterday and it has received praises from various music fans and enthusiast, especially for the chemistry for both artists and the attention to detail in the color grading of the visuals.
