The move seeks to protect them from unnecessary exposure to the coronavirus.
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has barred pregnant women, nursing mothers and other staff aged above 58 and with underlying health condition from resuming work.
The decision, reports say, is in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
INEC has accordingly resumed work partially from the COVID-19 lockdown.
Reports say the measure seeks to protect such staff from unnecessary exposure to the risk of contracting the virus.
Chairman and National Commissioner of INEC, Festus Okoye, is believed to have made the announcement in a statement.
According to the said statement, INEC officials met on May 7, 2020
and deliberated on the step by step protocol for the resumption of activities and operations as well as preparations for the conduct of Edo and Ondo governorship elections and other pending senatorial and State Assembly bye elections.
