Report coming in says Police in Pleebo, Maryland County have arrested and charged a 27-year-old man identified as Francis Sonpon for allegedly selling human parts, as ‘dry meat’ in Boniken town, in the County.
Suspect Boniken, according to K-news online was arrested in September for digging the grave of a three-day-old deceased, little Robert Joe Jr., who was buried on September 8.
The report added that suspect Sonpon further dug the grave, took the dead body, cut it into pieces, dried and sold it in the Town as “dried meat”.
While selling the “dried meat”, it was recognized by some citizens as human parts and he (suspect Francis Sonpon) was arrested and turned over to the Liberian National Police (LNP), Pleebo detachment for interrogation.
During the police investigation, suspect Sonpon admitted to intentionally committing the crime which contravenes section 18.12 of the New Penal Code Of the Republic of Liberia.
Meanwhile, suspect Sonpon has been charged with ‘Abuse Of Corpse’ and has been forwarded to court for trial.
However, the situation has instilled fear in the citizens of Maryland County who always prioritize eating dry meat with most of the residents vowing not to eat ‘Dry Meat’ in the area.
“From now on, I will stop buying meat. I will stop eating dry meat and even stop eating in cook shops.” Several citizens explained.
