A group of young women under banner “Progressive Ladies of CDC” has expressed serious disappointment in former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai for refusing to give women leadership position in his Unity Party and during his time in government.

The young women recounted that in 2017, the former VP now UP standard bearer refused to pick a female as his running mate and subsequently in 2023 he again denied a female an opportunity to serve.
Recently, the UP standard bearer announced Nimba County Senator and Political Leader of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), Jeremiah Koung as his running mate for the October 10 polls over Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence who has been by his side the split of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).
And this is Something that the progressive Ladies of CDC see as a blatant insult, lack of respect, marginalization and a neglect of women participation in the governance of the state on grounds that women too can become a great leader.
For said action, the young women said they reject the former Vice President at the ballot box during the October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.

The group added that the recent rejection of Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence by the former VP is an attempt to deny women of Liberia their right to political leadership.
The ladies asserted that it is something that also undermines democracy and has the propensity to create chaos in the Country owing to the fact women occupied majority portion of the country’s population.
