The Secretary General of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Andrew Peters has termed as “shameless” Unity Party standard bearer, Joseph N. Boakai persistent quest for the country’s presidency.
Mr. Peters further described the upcoming October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections are not about long speeches and promises instead, it is about tangible or deliverables.
“So, it is disheartening, shameful and unpatriotic to see Ambassador Boakai who has spent over 40 years in government still wanting to return to government and to be the head when he has not done anything that will demonstrate his seriousness while serving all those years,” He noted.
However, as Liberians gear up to elect a President and Vice President including 73 Representative’s and 15 Senators, key opposition parties like the UP and CPP are poised to unseat the ruling CDC for what they described as bad governance, rampant corruption, abuse of power and the mismanagement of public funds among others.
The CDC is a conglomeration of the Congress for Democratic Change of President George M. Weah, National Patriotic Party (NPP) of former President Charles Taylor and now headed by his wife, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor and the Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP) of former House Speaker, Alex Tyler.
Addressing a team of journalists late Monday, 29 May 2023 at the CDC headquarters in Congo Town, the NP SG further suggested that the elections are about each Presidential aspirant tangible and not business as usual through sweet speeches.
He at the same time accused the opposition community which includes the Unity Party, Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) among others for failing to point out a single tangible that will convince the public to elect them comes October of this year.
Mr. Peters asserted, “We have the tangibility, so this election will not be about long speeches. All we continue to hear is empty speeches that can’t show up for anything, and so, it is a one round victory for the CDC and President Weah 12 years is sure.”
He pondered, “Because all we continue to hear about is their desire to rescue. What are [they] rescuing? Is that the same damage they caused in this country for 12 unbroken years? We have to be very careful, the revolution to rescue the young people of this country was launched long ago by President Weah, and no one else can rescue this country beside Weah.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Peters has also questioned the Boakai- Jeremiah Koung presidential ticket, and asked, “So what this ticket has to show to tell Liberians that they are capable of rescuing this country?”
He furthers, “The answer is absolutely nothing. There’s nothing they can offer; they’re just thirsty for political power. They’re all power greed and [a] bunch of people that have failed to show any tangible”
The NPP SG then used the occasion to call on the government to move faster, urging officials to ‘resist the dictatorship,’ on grounds that the country belongs to everyone. “We don’t need recycling people who are desperately in need to take state power,” he said.
Peters further vowed to establish the River Cess for Weah to buttress the party’s efforts in campaigning for the reelection bid of President Weah, and also urged all CDCians to work hard to reject what he called an “evil ticket.”
