Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has been heavily criticized by some citizens of the county under the banner ‘Bassa Rescue Movement’ for abandoning one of her strong supporters, Abraham Kingjones who sustained serious injuries following Monday’s protest against ArcelorMittal.
According to report from the county, the protesters late Wednesday evening barricaded the entrance of the Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan City thus preventing Sen. Karnga-Lawrence from disembarking her vehicle.
The confusion, accordingly lasted for nearly three hours with rival supporters in bitter and heated exchanges in a bid to settle the matter by allowing Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence to visit Abraham Kingjones but to no avail.
The victim Abraham Kingjones is, according to our Liberia correspondent is said to be critically injured and has been taken to the John F. Kennedy medical center for further treatment in Monrovia.
It may be recalled, early Monday, May 22, several citizens staged another protest action demanding ArcelorMittal abandon its ongoing transportation of minerals to its washing plant in Nimba County.
The protesters demanded the construction of a washing plant in Grand Bassa County rather than transporting it out of the county, an act many of the protesters said has undermined job creation for thousands of citizens.
