Asake, Rema, Tems & Burna Boy Dominate 2025 Trace Awards Nominations. SEE LIST

Nigerian music heavyweights have once again made their mark, dominating the nominations for the 2025 Trace Awards. The highly anticipated event will be held on February 26, 2025, in Zanzibar as part of a two-day celebration that includes a music summit.

This prestigious award recognizes exceptional talent in African music, honoring artists who continue to break global boundaries and redefine the continent’s soundscape.

Song of the Year features a strong Nigerian presence, with hits like “Active” by Asake & Travis Scott, “Love Me Jeje” by Tems, Burna Boy’s “Higher,” and “Benin Boys” by Rema and Shallipopi among the contenders.

The Album of the Year category showcases “Lungu Boy” by Asake, Rema’s “HEIS,” and Burna Boy’s “I Told Them,” alongside remarkable works from Ghanaian artists Amaarae (Fountain Baby), King Promise (True to Self), and Stonebwoy (5th Dimension).

Other categories highlight cross-continental collaborations, exceptional live performances, and groundbreaking visuals. Nigerian stars dominate Best Music Video, with nominations for directors like TG Omori (“Twe Twe” by Kizz Daniel & Davido) and Edgar Esteves (“MMS” by Asake & Wizkid).

The awards also emphasize regional excellence, recognizing talent across East, West, Southern, and Francophone Africa, as well as Lusophone and international artists.
