The Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, says all Members of Parliament of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are now in support of calls for the country’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to be sacked.
It would be recalled that 80 NPP MPs started the call for Mr. Ofori-Atta to be removed from office to help restore investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy which has been struggling.
Following the call by the 80 MPs, the Minority National Democratic Congress backed the NPP MPs, filing a vote of censure.
Since then, the censure motion has been admitted and tabled to be voted upon in Parliament.
As Parliament is expected to vote on the motion, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has told the media that the entire NPP caucus is in support of Mr. Ofori-Atta being sacked despite President Nana Akufo-Addo asking for more time for him.
At a news conference in Accra on Thursday, November 3, 2022, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu says “Even though the issue started with the group of 80 plus, the caucus meeting aligned with the position of that group, so it is no longer the cause of the 80 plus MPs. It is the agenda for the entire caucus and we are having some discussions on that.”
