Al Ahly demand neutral venue for CAF Champions League Final

Egyptian Giants, Al Ahly have made a request for neutral venue for the CAF Champions League final.

Al Ahly made the request following their first leg semi-finals won over Algeria’s Entente Setif.

Al Ahly, the defending Champions defeated Setif, who were reduced to ten men after 35 minutes, 4-0.

CAF has not named a host for the final. The final will now be played on a one-off match basis rather than played over two legs as it was historically.

Al Ahly wrote to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) explaining that the final “should not be hosted by one of the countries of the four teams competing in the semi-finals.”

According to the letter, “a neutral venue will provide equal chances for the four teams.”

Al Ahly are 10-time African champions and they say “since Caf did not choose the hosting country in an earlier stage, giving one of the four teams the home advantage in the final contradicts the fair play standards.”
