The year 2024 continues to be monumental for Tyla, the 22-year-old South African songstress (born Tyla Laura Seethal).
Among her many historic milestones is a GRAMMY Award win, not to mention her chart-topping success on Billboard. As the year draws to a close, her streak of triumphs shows no sign of slowing.
Her latest accolade comes from her home country, where she was honored at GQ South Africa’s 7th Annual Men of the Year Awards held in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 8. The prestigious event celebrates innovators, influencers, and visionaries across various fields, and Tyla stood out as the recipient of the “Entertainer of the Year” award.
GQ South Africa praised Tyla’s meteoric rise, stating:
“With a blend of raw talent, commercial success, and a rapidly expanding international fanbase, Tyla’s future is nothing short of dazzling. Throughout 2024, she continued to redefine what it means to be a global icon, effortlessly blending genres and cultures while staying true to her roots. The recognition came just a day before another milestone was announced: her breakout international hit “Water” achieved 3x Platinum certification in the United States, signifying over 3 million units sold, as confirmed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Produced by Sammy Soso, “Water” remains Tyla’s highest-certified song to date.
Adding to the celebration, her track “Truth or Dare” was certified Gold in the U.S. on December 9, marking 500,000 units sold.
With her unique ability to blend genres, cultures, and a global fan base, Tyla continues to cement her status as one of the brightest stars of her generation, closing 2024 on a high note and setting the stage for an even more remarkable 2025.
