The single blends melodic acoustic guitar with Lojay’s signature afro-fusion sound and this is complemented by lyrics that explore themes of love, longing, and the search for an ideal partner.
“Somebody Like You” delves into the emotional complexities of relationships, touching on love, heartbreak, and the process of healing. Lines like “What if I gave you love to my ceiling / What if I bought you a couple more reasons” and “I pray I find me a spiritual woman / But if I don’t I’ll use all my time / Just looking around for / Somebody like you” express a yearning for connection and the hope of finding lasting love.
Lojay shared his thoughts on the song, saying, “‘Somebody Like You’ tells a story of hope. The hope of healing and finding love again even in the darkest moments. This is one song I really enjoyed writing because it paints a picture of love, heartbreak, and healing in less than three minutes on an infectious instrumental.”
This single reunites Lojay with Sarz, the two-time GRAMMY-nominated producer. Their previous collaborations, including Lojay’s critically acclaimed debut EP LV ‘N’ ATTN, which featured global hits like “Monalisa,” have solidified their reputation as a dynamic duo in the African music industry.
The release of “Somebody Like You” follows Lojay’s recent GRAMMY nomination for “Sensational,” a collaboration with Chris Brown and Davido. This nomination highlights Lojay’s growing international recognition and marks another significant achievement in his career.
