Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency in governance by ordering all government appointees to declare their assets by March 31, 2025. Failure to comply with this directive will result in severe sanctions, including possible removal from office.
To lead by example, President Mahama has officially declared his assets to the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, at the Jubilee House. This move is aimed at enhancing transparency and strengthening the fight against corruption.
Additionally, President Mahama has banned first-class travel for government officials to reduce unnecessary spending and promote fiscal responsibility.
The President’s directive aligns with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates public officials to declare their assets upon assumption of office. This move reinforces his administration’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
