Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has revealed that about 80 percent of the illegally recruited secondary school teachers in the state cannot even write an acceptance letter.
The governor made this statement during a meeting with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House.
Governor Sule explained that his administration had approved the employment of 1,000 teachers, but the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) went ahead to recruit over 1,000 additional teachers without proper qualifications.
He noted that some of these teachers paid bribes of up to ₦700,000 to secure their jobs, despite being unqualified. The governor emphasized that his administration is committed to reforming the educational system in the state, but this cannot be achieved by employing unqualified teachers.
To address this issue, Governor Sule has proposed re-conducting interviews for all employed teachers, including the 1,000 already approved, to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected.
